THON Photography

THON is a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. Our mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness and ensure funding for critical research - all in pursuit of a cure.

Throughout my time at Penn State, I spent four years volunteering for THON. For two of those for years I served as a photographer for the organization, and for my third year I had the honor of running the photography committee. This experience taught me an immense amount about the importance of empathy when behind a camera. I find that through working to become apart of the moments I am capturing, I can better understand the emotion felt by my subjects, and thus better express and represent them through my photography.

It was through this experience that I truly learned the importance photography plays in every person’s life. Some of the images below contain the last images taken of children who have been lost to cancer. It has been one of the greatest honors to provide ever lasting memories and smiles to families through photos that I was privileged enough to capture.

Beyond providing Four Diamond families with images to memorialize their children, I am thankful that my photography has been able to serve as a staple within the organization’s social media content, brand management, and countless published projects.
